Property & Horse Facilities

Kerewong Horse Farm - The Property

The 60 acre Kerewong Property has been set up for a life with horses and offers a beautiful, inviting rural Australian holiday setting for horse-loving guests in the Lorne Valley, Port Macquarie hinterland region on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Wherever you look your eyes are treated to stunning farm vistas, rich greens from the surrounding fields, forests & mountains.

From the moment you arrive, entering the driveway lined with tall eucalyptus trees, there is a sense that you’ve arrived in a serene haven where the world slows down. The rich variety of unique Australian bird songs, the smell of lemon-scented eucalyptus in the air on rainy or hot days, honeyeaters feasting on the many flowering native Australian shrubs and trees, and wallabies hopping around at dusk and dawn all add to the charm.

And of course the constant presence of horses being horses, happily grazing, dozing or playing.

The Seasons At Kerewong

Every season brings something to enjoy in the sub-tropical climate of the Port Macquarie Hinterland of NSW Australia. Experience the cycle of nature at Kerewong Horse Farm.

Summertime means lush green grasses, frangipani blossoms at the pool, and purple waterlilies in the dams opening to a backdrop of song from the frog choir.

The autumn days shortening and outside temperatures cooling down bring the yellow, brown, and orange autumn leaves of the deciduous Liquid Amber trees in the garden adding vibrant colours.

Mild short winters bring morning mist hanging low in the valleys, ripened fruit on the orange trees and sundowners at the firepit.

An explosion of blossoming trees and longer sunny days in spring marks a refreshing change.

Horse Facilities & Activities At Kerewong

35 acres of undulating pasture has been divided into 4 large post and rail fenced horse paddocks for the Kerewong horse herds. An open stable building provides an undercover area for grooming and saddling horses.

Arena: 20x40 metre fully fenced outdoor arena, professionally installed Eb & Flow drainage system with a premium sand & Flexi-Fibre mixed surface providing ideal footing.

Obstacle course: Mountain Trail is a fun discipline for recreational riders which involves navigating your horse (leading and/or riding) through man-made timber and natural trail obstacles.

The Kerewong Mountain Trail Obstacle Course was designed and build in 2023 according to the official Mountain Trail Challenge guidelines and specifications and new obstacles are added over time.

The Kerewong 25+ obstacle course includes: Crossbucks, Texas 2 Step, Top Hat, Cakebox, Seesaw, Small Bridge, Balance Beam, Turn Around Box, Logs, Fan, Maze, Trench, Raised Logs, Rock Obstacles, Water Crossing, Jump Up, Stairs, Snake and more.

The obstacle course is a valuable tool for handlers to practice, improve, and fine-tune their horsemanship skills during the Horsemanship Retreat Program. From the horses' perspective, it helps them improve their coordination and proprioception (body awareness), problem-solving skills and encourages confidence (makes them braver). Most importantly obstacle training can help to build a strong connection and relationship of trust between the horse and handler/rider. It is a fun way to train with horses of all ages!

The course is open to local private horse owners on selected days throughout the year.

Other facilities include: 16 metres Round Yard, several smaller horse yards and a post and rail fenced paddock for guest horses. These all have natural shelter from trees (no man-made shelters).

Horse Water on-site is tank (rainwater) or dam water.

The variety of available Horse Activities are a fun way to improve skills and connection.
