Philosophy and Ethics
Horse Welfare: All horses deserve a happy life where their natural needs are met: Friends (other horses), Forage (grazing) and Freedom (to move). Working horses (used for business) deserve the same standards. With horse ownership comes the responsibility to give the horses their best possible life and this is what we are dedicated to doing.
Complete Life-long Horse Care: We keep our horses! Kerewong Horse Farm stands out for its commitment to lifelong care for its horses. Each horse that arrives at Kerewong stays for the rest of its life. This means our horses live in a stable and cohesive herd. Every horse is cared for to a high standard, regardless of its ability to work, behaviour or physical challenges. The farm values each horse's unique contribution.
Kind Horsemanship: Investing in a human-horse relationship that is based on trust and understanding the horse’s point of view, can be achieved by being aware and present in the moment, understanding body language, consistency in handling, daily interactions and communicating in a way that horses understand.
While obedience and mutual respect are important to stay within safety limits, the Kerewong horses can express how they feel and can have an input in the training and relationship.
We firmly believe that spending time with horses should not only be riding them but also trying to become a better horse person in general. Let's appreciate the horses for who they are and not just for how they can serve us.
Business & Customer Satisfaction: A multitude of 5 star reviews and return customers bear witness to the care taken to ensure guests have the best possible experience at Kerewong. With a flexible approach, horses are matched with their riders and itineraries are customised as needed.
Kathy has a “never too hard” attitude and works hard before and during your stay to understand requirements and manage expectations.
